My daughter is 6, and she knows when something is bad. And she's not afraid to voice it, either! She got on me the other night. I have 3 tattoos. We were laying in bed, and she said, "mommy, you shouldn't let people color on your skin. You need to go wash it off!" I explained to her that I can't wash them off, because they're underneath my skin, and I did that when I was doing dumb stuff and not listening to my mommy.
Well, she proceeded to tell me that she was going to pray that God takes my tattoos off. I asked, "well, how is He going to do that?"
And this is where the innocence and faith of a child just "schooled" me.
She said, "mommy. You believe the Holy Ghost is in you, right? And that is God! Since He's inside you, and He can do anything. He can just walk over to under your skin where the tattoos are, and pull them out!" WOW!!! My jaw just dropped and hit the floor.
And, truth be told, she really did pray for God to remove my tattoos that night. She told God that she wanted them off me because she didn't like them and they are ugly. And that I can't wash them off, but she knows God can reach in and take them off. I actually (secretly) had to check afterwards to see if they were still there!
I am so honored and humbled that my daughter would think to pray for me, her mommy. it really just touched my heart to the core. If my heart had a pocket, I would keep moments like this tucked safely inside so I could hold them close to my heart forever. What a beautiful, simple, earnest prayer she gave as a request for God to intervene for her mommy. Talk about pulling on my heartstrings!
